Veteran Employment Programs: Your Path to a New Career

Transitioning from military to civilian employment can be challenging, but veterans have access to powerful programs designed to help. Whether you’re looking for your first civilian job or changing careers, here’s what you need to know.

Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)

The VA’s VR&E program helps veterans with service-connected disabilities who face employment barriers. The program offers five different tracks based on your needs:

  • Reemployment: Help returning to your former employer
  • Rapid Access to Employment: Quick job placement using existing skills
  • Self-Employment: Support for starting your own business
  • Long-Term Services: Education or training for a new career field
  • Independent Living: Services for those unable to work immediately

Additional Resources

  • Transition Assistance Program (TAP): Career assistance for transitioning service members and military spouses
  • Employment Navigator Program: One-on-one career assistance at military installations
  • SkillBridge: Training with civilian employers during your last 180 days of service
  • Career Counseling: Free resume support and job search guidance

Your Skills Are Valuable

Military experience translates into civilian success. Leadership, discipline, problem-solving, and teamwork are highly valued by employers. The key is learning how to communicate your military experience in civilian terms.

“Your service prepared you for success. These programs help you prove it to employers.”
