Grant Opportunities for Veteran Service Organizations

Organizations serving veterans have several funding opportunities available in 2026. If your nonprofit supports veteran housing, employment, or wellness, here’s what you should know about current grants.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

The VA’s SSVF program provides grants to community organizations that serve homeless veterans and those at risk of homelessness. Funded services include:

  • Outreach and case management
  • Temporary financial assistance for housing costs
  • Connection to VA and community benefits
  • Legal services and credit counseling referrals

Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program

The VA’s GPD program offers approximately $15 million annually for case management grants. Individual grants range from $75,000 to $300,000 per year, supporting about 120 full-time case manager positions nationwide.

Tips for Applicants

  • Start early—grant applications require significant documentation
  • Demonstrate experience serving veteran populations
  • Show measurable outcomes from previous programs
  • Build partnerships with VA medical centers and Vet Centers
  • Understand the “housing first” and trauma-informed care models

Beyond Federal Grants

Many foundations and corporations offer grants for veteran services. Research local community foundations, corporate giving programs, and veteran-focused philanthropies in your area.
